Buddies helping with Phonics

This week the Year 6 Buddies helped kinder to use some of the websites the teachers had found that help us learn phonics. The Year 6 learnt how to use a del.icio.us account(which is a way to save and organise websites-the teachers had put phonics sites into a 'reading' account.) The year 6 then helped Kinder to learn how to use the sites...and how to use the interactive software for our interactive whiteboard device. The time went so fast...and everyone was on task and engaged the whole time! We should do more of these activities...thankyou buddies!

Week 5 Term 2

We used some other software called Kidspiration to make an information picture about the things we like. We had to show the FOOD, the TOYS and the ANIMALS that we liked best. We used picture libraries and dragged the pictures into the three boxes.

Week 4 Term 2

We used some special software to make a picture of our face. We labeled the parts firstly by dragging in some labels and then typing the words ourselves! We are so clever!!

Week 3 Term 2

Mother's Day was coming up so we wanted to make some special Mother's Day messages for our mums. Our buddies helped us-especially when we wanted to write our messages! We love our Mums!!!

Week 2 Term 2

We started to learn about the program 'Paint'. We experimented and tried to draw ourselves. It was hard at first getting use to the touch pad for a mouse on the laptops, but Mrs Manning & Mrs Sillis were really proud of our efforts!

Week 1 Term 2

Well, we started up again this term, but this time with Kinder Red. We talked about the rules for using technology at our school with all the children in Kinder Red.

We then played on 'Netty's world' to remind us of the rules

Week 11

This was a week where we could look back on the term's work, check that it was all finished and evaluate our progress. We gave ourselves a rating as to how we felt we went. Now Mrs M has to make sure she gets all our great work up on the wiki....looks like a holidays project!!!!

Week 10

We designed our own version of the school uniform, choosing the colour, style and pattern of the material based on our favourite choices. This work tied in with the work we were doing in class. It's great when we can use technology to help us in our learning!!

Weeks 8 & 9

We used another new program in these weeks called 'Kidspiration'. This program helps us to make 'information pictures'. We selected pictures from the picture library and dragged them into three different areas on the screen. We made an information picture about the food, toys and animals we like.


(Mrs M converted the pictures into word documents so that we can see them on our wiki pages)

Easter egg Decorating

We learnt some new skills in 'Word' and inserted basic shapes to decorate a template of an egg. Then we printed and coloured our work & took them home!

The teachers in Kinder have made some slide shows to help Kinder children learn their sounds and blends!

A great site to help with learning letters

This is a great site to help teach the Kinders what the letters look like in capitals and lower case. There are also some good activities for teaching shape and number. Parents might like to play the games with their children (especially the keyboard activities)! It's a fun way to learn these tricky concepts!!

Weeks 5 and 6

These last two weeks Kinder have been practising typing their names. In Week 5 we typed into 'Word' documents, and in Week 6, into 'Power Point'.
These first few weeks we've been focusing on SKILLS.
Some of the Kinders had trouble recognising the letters to type on the keyboard as they were in CAPITALS. It would be great if the parents could practise with the children recognising their names and other letters in capitals!

Technology Weeks 3 & 4

We learnt how to draw pictures using the 'paint' program. Mrs Manning & Mrs Sillis were amazed at how much we improved over the two weeks! We then drew ourselves next to our house!

Technology Week 2

We started learning about how to use technology in the correct ways to help us to learn.
Netty taught us about safety using computers. We played some games on the site.
